Digitalised energy systems are vulnerable to disruption. Their failure can have catastrophic consequences for society: extreme weather, cyberattacks and other shocks can quickly lead to supply shortages.
In our new publication “Towards Energy System Resilience” (Open Access), we present concepts for practical implementation.
We demonstrate

options for the resilient design of complex systems,

a toolkit for monitoring the resilience of future energy systems, which can be used to strengthen electricity grids, energy supply, transport systems and digitalisation technologies,

how economic and legal aspects, as well as participatory elements, can be taken into account in the realisation of resilient energy systems, and
-
what a practical approach to implementing resilience for energy systems might look like.
The publication is aimed at stakeholders from academia, industry and politics who are involved in the transition to digitalised energy systems.
“Towards Energy System Resilience” is based on the findings of the project “ReMoDigital – Resilience Monitoring for the Digitalisation of the Energy Transition”, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (formerly BMWK), and is published in the series “Ethics of Science and Technology Assessment”.
